From rejection to leadership
Judges 11 introduces Jephthah as a mighty man of valor whose brothers drove him away. When Israel later needed a leader, the elders sought his help. The sermon emphasizes that the circumstances of our birth and the labels other people place upon us do not determine what God can do through us.
Seek peace and know the Scriptures
Before going to war, Jephthah attempted to negotiate with the king of Ammon. He explained Israel’s history and the land the Lord had given them. The message draws a practical lesson about seeking the truth before reacting and allowing Scripture to shape our decisions.
Victory and conflict
The Lord gave Jephthah victory over Ammon, but conflict followed with Ephraim. The sermon examines the dispute in Judges 12, the danger of ingratitude and division, and the way speech reveals identity. Jephthah’s vow is mentioned but is not the focus of this message.
Five lessons for serving God
The conclusion offers five applications: your past does not disqualify you from God’s service; rejection can become preparation; spiritual growth brings opposition; knowing Scripture equips you for wise decisions; and not everyone will celebrate your obedience. The invitation is to keep following the Lord even when others misunderstand.
