Why Jesus taught in parables
The kingdom parables reveal spiritual truth through familiar pictures. Understanding involves believing and submitting to Christ, rather than simply accumulating religious information.
The hard heart
Seed on the wayside pictures hearing the gospel without receiving it. Knowing facts about Jesus is not the same as trusting Him as Lord and Savior.
The shallow heart
Stony ground illustrates a response without depth. Pastor Drew warns against treating religion as a transaction and urges believers to develop roots that endure difficulty and offense.
The busy heart
Thorns crowd out fruitfulness. The cares of life, riches, sin, and even excessive good activity can fill our lives while leaving little room for spiritual fruit. The blackberry-patch illustration shows why pruning is needed.
The receptive heart
Good ground receives the Word and bears fruit. John 15 brings the application to abiding in Christ: lasting fruit comes from dependence on Him and a willingness to be pruned.
