The scroll in God’s right hand
John sees a book sealed with seven seals and hears the question: who is worthy to open it? The lesson presents this scroll as the document containing the outcome of human history and connects its imagery with Daniel 12 and Ezekiel 2.
The Lion who is the Lamb
John is told of the Lion of Judah, yet sees a Lamb who has been slain. Jesus is worthy because of His redeeming work. His victory comes through His death and resurrection. Understanding Christ as Savior is central to understanding this vision.
Redemption and the kinsman redeemer
The message considers the past, present, and future of salvation and the Spirit as the guarantee of the believer’s inheritance. Old Testament pictures of redeeming a servant, a bride, and land help explain the scope of Christ’s redemption.
Jeremiah’s purchase and the title deed
Pastor Drew interprets the sealed scroll as the title deed to the earth. Jeremiah 32 provides the illustration: a purchased field and sealed evidence of ownership point toward future restoration, even while captivity is approaching. The lesson looks forward to creation’s redemption through Christ.
Worship means recognizing Christ’s worth
The practical response is to give Jesus our strength, resources, attention, honor, and praise. Worship includes reading, preaching, praying, singing, and seeing the Word through baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The whole life of the believer should be centered on the worthiness of Jesus.
